Forest Sanctuary — Music & Quiet

Domestic Arts

These are the homemaking skills our great-grandparents took for granted, and they’re how a neighborhood takes care of itself: cooking, gardening, putting food by, painting, quilting, woodwork, masonry, mending what’s worn. We practice them out loud and pass them hand to hand.

Ways to take part

  • Saturday garden mornings, April through October, 11 to 1 — tend the beds, share the harvest.
  • Neighbor meals — we cook and eat together.
  • Workdays — many hands on the building and the grounds.
  • Skill-shares — somebody who knows shows somebody who wants to learn.
  • The art studio and gallery — a working studio and a rotating wall of art.

Every skill passed along is a neighborhood that holds together.

“Start where you are, with what you have. You don’t need much to begin, just a willingness to show up.”
